Sherwin Rivera Tibayan - Horror Vacui

These images from the American mid west are interesting in that the billboards shown are blank, defunct and not being used, companies don't believe investing in these spaces will return enough business. The photographs don't include any people or distracting features that draw attention away from the main focus. The project shows how these modern day icons have morphed into their surroundings, not looking out of place but definitely not natural considering the surroundings for some of the billboards featured. Such as the one image where nature appears to be reclaiming the areas around the billboard, upon close inspection the photographer even found a birds nest enjoying the billboards use. I also like how the billboards are varying in size and stature thanks to careful composition when taking the images, at different distances away from the billboards depending on their surroundings.
